I'm glad I wore these pants

So. Driven by an intense need to procrastinate, I start to blog.

Don't ask me why. Who has an answer to that?
Don't tell me that I've done a complete 180 by actually contributing when only yesterday I was slagging blogs off as a waste of time for people who have finally run out of things to waste their time on.
Don't remind me that whatever gratification I get out of this is completely self-indulgent.
Don't say that.

All I'm going to do is log those interestingly funny snippets of life that everyone has. Hopefully, my life is funnier than yours. God I'd hate to bore you.

So here goes... The funniest thing about my life right now, is that I live in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada... and if you're not from Canada, which most people on Earth aren't, you probably don't know why that's funny. You see, Thunder Bay is in what's obscurely known as Northern Ontario. This catchall phrase describes a region so desolate, so wild, so damn far from anywhere, so freakin cold. If you lived in Southern Ontario, or any of the major metropolitan cities like say, Victoria, and someone told you they lived in Northern Ontario, you'd just laugh and laugh and when you finished snickering, you'd ask... WHY?

I'm living here to finish my Engineering degree; I have less than a year to go. And where I really live is Victoria British Columbia. That's where my heart is. Where I long to be. Where everything I hold precious is. To illustrate the differences between Victoria and Thunder Bay, I'll compare the cities in an comparative list:

Victoria Thunder Bay
Good Bad
Paris Chernobyl
New Orleans before hurricanes New Orleans after hurricanes
Having sex Not having sex
Rich Poor

I could go on... but I think you get the gist.

You might think that I should just suck it up and get over it. You big softy, you might say. But it's not like that. I'm having a great time here, really. I ALWAYS have a good time. And there are loads of good friends here. It's just that I'd much rather be having my good times back in Vic.

Now I'm going to shout out those people who make Victoria worth going back too...

First and foremost, Heather. Your belief in me has helped me accomplish so much. Your hearts cadence pulses through me, without you I'd be a shell. And because of you, I'm blogging, so big up yourself.
Geoff. You're my boy. You're the brother I've always had, but now I see fresh. You continue to show me new ways to live. I hope you can learn as much from me, as I have from you. Let's go surfing in Lake Superior!
Simon. Anyone who sends a present of wiskey and porn is a true true friend. You taught me never to be late, which you'll all agree... is very important.
The lads and lasses: Heath's friends who are now deep-rooted in who I am. Thanks for the comedy. Thanks for the acceptance, simply offered, you're all magic.
And Vicky, who's in the previous category, but now lives in New Zealand. I say this, and I think I speak for many: Come back. Don't live there. So far away?
To the T Bay Cru... Keep Ballin... Get Barkered... Don't SPugh... Stay Lucky! One more year, and we're outta here!

So in closing, I'd like to thank you for reading, for allowing me half an hours distraction from a thrilling concrete design assignment, and providing me a surprising amount of self indulgent gratification.

I'll end with a quote that is more for me, because, I'm the only one in school, 'cept for you: Jen and Brian, keep up the hard work.

Thanks for the shouts outs bro-dogg. We are far apart in actual distance... but we are sitting very close - almost awkwardly close - on the couch of thoughts and humour.

Peace.

WOW. I am truly stunned. A blog from T'Bay. What's more surprising- that your fingers are thawed enough to type, or that Thunder Bay has high speed internet... hmmm...

Welcome to the blog-o-sphere. It's spreading.
